Chapter 1— 2018

The year started off great. It’s going to be a big year. Dad turns 50, little brother turns 21, and in March I’ll be a quarter century old. A bit scary when you stop, think, and actually write these numbers down– yikes. Anyways, right off the bat, on the very first month of the year, a call:

“Our church is having a party, and we want you to take our pictures, interested?”

A church party? My very first paid photo shoot, and it’s a church event..? Quite a big deal. Let me explain—

I have no problem with churches, I grew up in Brazil inside a very religious family. So the church isn’t the problem. The cause of my fearpiness (mixture of the feelings happiness and fear) was due to the fact I had never hosted a photo shoot nor had I shot an event on my own. Especially a church party. I mean, will I be able to capture what the church is expecting me to capture? What kind of party is this? How many are attending? Will I need help? But without hesitation: “Hell yes, I’m interested! I’d be honored.”

Now, I know I have a lot to learn, but damn did this non-alcoholic church party make me feel good!

Life Restoration Ministries, thank you for hosting such a lovely party with amazing people who happened to be great dancers. To see the venue full of happiness and joy in all ages was truly light and uplifting. You allowed me do what I love with such ease and kindness. I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I enjoyed the party.
